Hybrid larch (Larix decidua) #1
50 cm high (live crown)
Around 50 years old
Pot by Derek Aspinall
from a tree which was collected in Germany in 1995
The overwhelming majority of larches in Europe and also 'European larches' in North America are hybrid larches. The true Larix decidua is a tree of the high Alps and does not like to live in the flat lands. Therefore 99% of planted larches are hybrid larches.
This specimen is interesting for it's history. See the first picture for how it started out.
