Sabinas are not so rare, but good ones are extremely rare. This is the best one I ever found, well, at least the largest one anyway. It was on my birthday in July 1997 that i decided to do some scouting for collecting later that year. I found this unique piece and decided to collect it right away, although July is not known as the best time for that. Right on the day of collection when carrying the tree down from the cliff it fell down to the bottom of the valley. It was a huge clump with one quite thick dead part and another enormous part which lived. The dead part broke off but I saved it. For some mysterious reason the tree survived and grew even having been collected in July. It was my birthday present obviously. A couple years later when I potted the sabina into what may well be the final pot by Derek AspinallI I fixed the two parts together again. This is well one of the most impressive junipers ever found in Europe. In 2007 I decided that the thick lowest branch was way too stiff and straight. It had to be bent if this tree should ever become a real good bonsai. So I broke it ans one can see on the images. And it survived again. In 2008 it is as healthy as such a juniper can be. A tree full of wonders.
