Sabina Juniper (Juniperus sabina) #3

About 35 cm high
Around 100 years old
Pot Tokname

collected in Austria in 1997

Sabinas are not so rare, but good ones are extremely rare. This size with really outstanding quality almost does not exist. Well, almost. This one was my best find so far of this size. It is one thing to purchase a piece of outstanding quality and another thing to find it yourself and to keep it alive and healthy, which is not the norm with sabinas, unfortunately. This is still in development, of course. It made it to the Gingko Award 2007 still, although the foliage is not well defined yet.

Spring 2005, before wiring and shaping
Spring 2005, right after very first styling. Looks pathetic, as so many trees after first styling. It does not matter really what it looks like now. All that mattters is is what it will look five years later.

Summer 2007, this shot was taken just before the tree was brought to the Gingko Award 2007. Premature, of course, but I am glad I did it.
