◄ BackHilliari Elm(Ulmus campestre (procera) 'Hilliarii') #1About 50 cm high This was the mother plant to supply the communist world with the Hilliari-elm. It stood in Czechia where cuttings were made since around 1955. I acquired it as stump with a few branches in 1994. In 2003 the elm was at it's height and was at the Gingko Award. It was also at other exhibits and has won some international awards. Then in the winter 2004/5 the roof of my greenhouse had too much snow on it and a part fell on my Hilliari-elm. One has to know that this tree is so brittle that it breaks if you just shout at it. This is much worse in winter. The tree lost quite a lot of branches. it was a disaster, but it is recovering slowly now. In another five years it will shine again. |
