European Hackberry(Celtis australis) #1

About 60 cm high
Around 60 years old
Pot Chinese, training pot
From a tree which was collected in Italy in 1992

I acquired this from Salvatore Liporace in 1996. It has an enormous trunk. Normally one decreases the size of the crown to enhance a bonsai. Here I will increase the size of the crown so that the trunk does not look grotesque anymore. But this has to happen slowly. The branches must also have taper and the lower branches must be thick enough to look credible on the fat trunk. This constitutes a great challenge. It will take another ten years to accomplsih this. Maybe I will find a way to enhance the nebari too.
